Backpacks for Orphans

We are helping families in Florida and Indiana to provide backpacks, winter gloves, school supplies, toys, purses, books and Bibles for orphans in Ukraine and Romania. Backpacks are very important for orphans, because they need a safe place to keep their special belongings. They also need to carry their school books and other things. We are also visiting a local orphanage every week to invest in the lives of the children.
Do you want to donate a backpack?
We are collecting new or gently used backpacks and have several drop off locations in Indiana, and two locations in Florida. A few times each year short term missionaries fly to L'viv, Ukriane to deliver and help distribute the backpacks. Stuffing each backpack costs around $10. If you want to help, but don't live in Florida or Indiana maybe you would like to send $10 to fill a backpack with gifts. We are hoping the collect 50 Backpacks in Florida and 75 Backpacks in Indiana before March 31, 2014. Contact information for drop off locations are at the bottom of this page.

How this Works:
Josh and Sarah Brown are missionaries living in Ukraine, who are organizing the effort to help provide gifts, necessities and educational toys, games and books to orphans living in orphanages. We have friends in Florida and Indiana collecting backpacks to deliver, or ship to us here. Once the backpacks arrive we purchase supplies locally to fill the backpacks. If people donate purses and lunch boxes we will place those in the backpacks along with some school supplies to deliver to the children. We depend on donations to help us to fill the backpacks. If we don't have money to fill them, the kids will be happy to have the backpacks anyway. We also enjoy putting on parties for orphans as Christian outreach events, with games, music, and food. Please make a note concerning how you wish the funds to be used if something specific is on your heart. "Fill backpacks" or "Please buy groceries for an orphanage" or whatever is on your heart. Maybe: "Bibles for Orphans" If you say nothing we will use the funds for the "Current urgent needs". Pray about what needs you would like to help with, the needs are endless. Instructions:
Call or Email the contact person before you come, and please only bring winter gloves and backpacks. If you have something else you would like to donate please contact [email protected]. Shipping costs are very high, so we are very careful about what we accept. Purses and Lunch Boxes: If you would like to fill a purse with gifts for a girl, or a lunch box with gifts for a boy, we welcome this kind of donation, but you will need to donate $7. to help with shipping cost for each one. It costs $10 to fill a backpack. We purchase toys, gifts, and school supplies locally to help support the local economy, we shop at family owned stores and small markets. If you can't afford to contribute $10 to help with the cost of filling the backpack that's not a problem, other people might give, so don't worry about it, just donate the backpacks. |
The Story
In December, Sarah asked her friends on facebook if they would like to help purchase gifts for some orphans that she will be visiting for Christmas. Several of her friends wanted to help, and she quickly realized that if she makes it easy for her friends to contribute to her efforts more orphans can be helped! Sarah lives in a country with over 30,000 orphans living in orphanages, she also is collecting things for the children and orphans living in unspeakable poverty in Romania. Earlier this year the Browns brought dozens of donated winter coats to distribute in Romania, they hope to do this again. On January 2nd the Browns helped to put on an Christmas even at a local orphanage and gave out backpacks, winter hats, purses, and dolls to 25 children, and provided a few bags of groceries for the orphans. All this was possible because of the gifts from our friends in the USA!
