It was almost 3 years ago, when I read in one of Laura's books about vanishing species, that I first discovered my passion for the Clayi Hibiscus. There were less than 80 of the these trees left in the world and all but 2 were on the Island of Kauai.
I knew that I had to find a way to increase their numbers and use the land God provided to propagate lots of new plants, and maybe I could be part of doubling that number. This week I started 80 new plants! I hope and pray that they thrive!
I've been working on this project with my children for 2 years. I have many dreams, many callings, many passions... and this is just one.
The original Hibiscus , not one of the hundreds of hybrids, but the one that must have been growing in the garden of Eden. A native of Kauai.
I've enjoyed drawing the flowers, and making healing tea with them too.
I was able to rescue 12 original plants, that were 15 years old. They were root-bound, and covered in fungus when I tracked them down, and purchased them for $75 each. Some of my original trees grew to 12 feet tall after being planted in the ground.

Every morning the Clayi Hibiscus plants produce an array of new flowers.
We make a healing tea with them and share the flowers with our parrots, as a treat.
